Why us?

We recognize that yoga is a popular pursuit in Hong Kong. People seek it out for its health benefits and often incorporate it into their active lifestyles. However, yoga instruction is not equal among the various yoga centres in Hong Kong. This is where our accredited Teacher Training Courses make all the difference.

Our courses are accredited by, and offered in conjunction with, Asana Andiappan College of Yoga and Research Centre in India. This is the first time outside of India that such a programme is being offered.

Our classes are designed and taught in the same way as our instructors are taught. Predominantly from India, our instructors are fully learned not only in the practice of their discipline, but also in the history and philosophy behind the practice. The resulting combination of grassroots knowledge both practical and theoretical in our programmes gives students more in-depth learning than they may able to find elsewhere in Hong Kong.

Learn the art of mindfulness and mindful living

Meditation is one of the most discussed topics in the health and wellness industry today. There are many scientific research findings which show how simple meditative practices can heal various ailments in our body and mind, one of the unique benefits of yoga has to offer is its ancient Indian meditation technique benefits and the meditative benefits which can be integrated into various alternative and holistic therapy methods.

Why meditate and what are the benefits?

As the goal of meditation is different from individual to individual, one of the most common benefits which are backed by scientific studies show reduced stress for those who meditate regularly.

For as short as ten to fifteen minutes of meditation a day is enough for a person to feel more positive and physically and mentally relaxed, and practicing it regularly could transform one's life. Meditation helps one to calm the mind.

Through better control, one is able to consciously calm the mind and its emotional pattern and learn how it processes new information.

Calming one's mind has a positive impact on every aspect of one's life: one's emotional health and self-esteem, stress levels, work performance, discipline, relationships, overall happiness and physical health.

What is the connection between breathing and the mind?

Being aware of the breath and its process is known to be one of the most powerful ways to meditate. Various breathing techniques in yoga are practiced to gain deeper and longer breaths. Taking deep breaths calms the mind, as it triggers neurons in the brain which helps the body to relax. Body, breathe and mind is all closely connected. If the flow of breath is erratic, the thoughts will be erratic as well. If the breath is slow, smooth, long and deep, then the mind follows. One should note oxygenating the lungs fills the brain with oxygen. With fresh air, the flow of thoughts is in tune with nature. With stagnant breathing, the thoughts also have the same quality. The first and most effective way to start meditation is to regulate your breathing pattern.

Do I need to complete any other basic teacher training programs such as the foundation teacher training course?

As this training covers the basics of pranayama (Breathing Techniques) and meditation it does not require any prior yoga certifications. However, if you plan to teach a comprehensive yoga session that includes asanas (poses) and other practices such as kriyas and mudras it's always better to further your knowledge with a 200hrs foundation teacher training program that we also offer.

Why should I join Anahata Yoga's Teacher Training Course? What is the difference between your training course and the others on offer in the market?

Please read our 10 Reasons to Join Our Teacher Training Course. That aside, there are three main advantages to joining our Teacher Training Courses:

  1. We are very particular about our teaching method Our training courses are structured in the same way as those offered in India, and our yoga masters teach the classes in the same manner as they have learned in India. Taking part in our teacher training is therefore akin to taking yoga teacher trainings in India. In most other teacher training courses, students get a limited yoga education that is highly dependent on their teacher's own training and knowledge. What happens is that there is a simple passage of knowledge from the teacher to the students, instead of a dynamic environment wherein students learn concepts and postures in a manner that they will be able to teach again in their own style. Moreover, the traditional core concepts and principles taught in a teacher training are very important in the understanding of yoga philosophy. Such knowledge is impossible to gain simply by reading books. In order to fully grasp the practical and philosophical tenets of yoga, one has to learn it from fully professional, well-trained, and experienced yoga masters who are able to thoroughly explain and demonstrate such concepts and practices.
  2. Our courses are integrated and inclusive We cover most types of yoga and lineages in our teaching trainings so that students get a holistic view and understanding of what yoga is, how it was developed over the years, and how it is relevant today. Our courses are designed in such a way that includes as much depth and breadth of yoga history and philosophy as possible, and integrates both theoretical and practical aspects of the practice.
  3. We continue training and helping our students even after they have completed the programme We make sure our students get teaching opportunities at other centres. In fact, other yoga studios in Hong Kong prefer to hire graduates of our teacher training courses because of their knowledge in various types of yoga, routines, and as well as their ability to develop their own sequences and teaching plans. Moreover, at Anahata Yoga, we hire only teachers who have completed our own Yoga Teacher Training Courses.

Can I enroll in this course even though I'm pregnant?

The Pranayama and Meditation course is a basic course and does not involve intensive yoga practice. We exclude the demonstration of asanas to pregnant women, but otherwise, if you are in your earlier stages of pregnancy (and your due date does not fall within the course duration), then yes, you are welcome to join the course. We have had pregnant women take up and successfully complete the course before.

How are the assessments conducted?

Assessments are conducted in two parts, theory and practical. For the theory topic, you will have to choose one topic on types of meditation and write an essay on the introduction, steps, and approach on how to teach that type of meditation to a beginner and submit it online.

For the practical exam, you will teach a class that involves pranayama and meditation and the teacher will assess the class and give you inputs on how to work on your teaching skills. Upon successful completion of both assessments, you will receive the Course Graduation Certificate.
