Who we are

Anahata Yoga is a premier yoga centre based in the heart of the Central district. It is best known for offering the most authentic yoga experience available in Hong Kong, with classes led by Indian instructors hailing from different lineages devoted to the practice and study of yoga.

As a centre, Anahata Yoga is fully committed to fostering a community of yoga practitioners who are not only equipped with the skills to perform yoga as a daily activity, but as well as the knowledge to live out yoga as a lifestyle.

What is kids yoga?

Starting a yoga practice at a young age creates a healthy life for youngsters. By nature, children’s minds and bodies are flexible, adaptable and easily teachable. So long as yoga is fun, creative and interactive, it’s an activity they’re sure to like. In addition to being a great physical activity, yoga offers an entertaining way for children to learn about the mind and body, and their functions and abilities.

Children also learn to balance their emotions and improve their focus and concentration through yoga. Various studies have shown that children who regularly practice yoga have better health and emotional balance, and are less likely to be afflicted with common health issues such as allergies, asthma, digestive disorders, obesity, ADD and ADHD.

At Anahata Yoga, parents who enjoy yoga also pave the way for their children to enjoy the activity, making yoga a regular family activity and cultivating a healthy lifestyle. And just as yoga can be tailored according to the needs and capacities of every individual, so can kids’ yoga be designed to match the interests of every individual child – not only ensuring a healthy body and mind, but also some fun and laughter along the way.

Benefits of yoga for kids

  • Yoga helps improve strength and flexibility.
  • Yoga increases concentration, focus, and attention.
  • Kid's yoga increases self - esteem.
  • Yoga decreases anxiety and increases ability to relax.

 Frequently Asked Questions

I see other studios offering 30- and 40-hour, as well as 3-day weekend Kids Yoga Teaching Training Courses. What is the difference between these classes and Anahata Yoga’s long 200HR course?

Instructors who are serious about teaching yoga for children need to have good foundational grounding in yoga, and how it can be taught to kids of various age groups. This involves sound knowledge of both practice and theory.

At Anahata Yoga, our Kids Yoga Teacher Training Course is composed of 60% practical sessions and 40% theory. To complete the training, students attend kids’ yoga classes conducted in our studio and also conduct a yoga class for children in the presence of a faculty member.

We ensure that our students are fully equipped and confident to teach yoga to children across a range of age groups upon completion of our programme. Upon completion of our course, students are also invited to be part of the Andiappan Yoga Community as a volunteer and teach in our programmes that offer yoga to children and families.

What makes Anahata Yoga’s Kids Teacher Training Course different from those of other schools?

Instructors need to be well informed and educated about the anatomy, physiology and common health conditions of children to qualify to teach children yoga. They need to understand the different tools and techniques to properly and safely guide children in a yoga class, while making it a fun experience. Our Kids Yoga Teacher Training focuses primarily on equipping our students with these knowledge, skills and training experiences.

Why should I join Anahata Yoga's Teacher Training Course? What is the difference between your training course and the others on offer in the market?

Please read our 10 Reasons to Join Our Teacher Training Course. That aside, there are three main advantages to joining our Teacher Training Courses:

  1. We are very particular about our teaching method Our training courses are structured in the same way as those offered in India, and our yoga masters teach the classes in the same manner as they have learned in India. Taking part in our teacher training is therefore akin to taking yoga teacher trainings in India. In most other teacher training courses, students get a limited yoga education that is highly dependent on their teacher's own training and knowledge. What happens is that there is a simple passage of knowledge from the teacher to the students, instead of a dynamic environment wherein students learn concepts and postures in a manner that they will be able to teach again in their own style. Moreover, the traditional core concepts and principles taught in a teacher training are very important in the understanding of yoga philosophy. Such knowledge is impossible to gain simply by reading books. In order to fully grasp the practical and philosophical tenets of yoga, one has to learn it from fully professional, well-trained, and experienced yoga masters who are able to thoroughly explain and demonstrate such concepts and practices.
  2. Our courses are integrated and inclusive We cover most types of yoga and lineages in our teaching trainings so that students get a holistic view and understanding of what yoga is, how it was developed over the years, and how it is relevant today. Our courses are designed in such a way that includes as much depth and breadth of yoga history and philosophy as possible, and integrates both theoretical and practical aspects of the practice.
  3. We continue training and helping our students even after they have completed the programme We make sure our students get teaching opportunities at other centres. In fact, other yoga studios in Hong Kong prefer to hire graduates of our teacher training courses because of their knowledge in various types of yoga, routines, and as well as their ability to develop their own sequences and teaching plans.

Moreover, at Anahata Yoga, we hire only teachers who have completed our own Yoga Teacher Training Courses.

Do I need to complete any other basic teacher training programs such as the foundation yoga teacher training?

This course is not just limited to aspiring yoga teachers; it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about the teaching mindfulness and yoga for kids. And since the 100hrs Kids Hours Teacher Training Certificate Course covers all the details about the applying yoga for kids of various age group, it is certainly suitable for those with no prior training or experience in the practice.

However, if you plan to teach a comprehensive yoga session for kids and adults that includes tailor made sequence of asanas (poses) and other practices such as breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques it's always better to further your knowledge with a 200hrs foundation teacher training program that we also offer.

How are the assessments conducted?

Assessments are conducted in two parts, theory and practical. For the theory topic, you will be given some topics on kids’ yoga class and its effects of physical and mental health. You can write an assignment on that topic and submit it online. You have one month after the course to submit this assignment.

For the practical exam, you will teach a kid’s class at Anahata Yoga under the supervision of our yoga instructor. Teacher will assess the class and give you inputs on how to improve on your teaching skills. Upon successful completion of both assessments, you will receive the Course Graduation Certificate.

As a course kids’ yoga teacher training graduate, you are always most welcome to assist our teachers in our kids’ yoga group classes anytime with prior notice to the teacher.
